The World Ocean School, operating the National Historic Landmark schooner, Roseway, is accepting applicants for tall ship experienced mates and deckhand eductors for the ongoing educational programs in the Northeast and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Positions are live aboard and require at least a one season commitment with an opportunity for a long term position aboardRoseway.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Capable of taking direction from Captain as well as taking initiative
as needed
• Clear communication and modeling of appropriate behavior
• Willing to enforce rules and regulations aboard the ship
• Confident in seamanship and interpersonal skills and able to inspire
confidence in others
• Multi-tasking ability
• Commitment to execution and follow through
• Flexible adaptable to possible opportunities
• Able to include students in operation of vessel and serve as educator
• Organized, willing to be decisive, but also work well as member of
a team
• Mature well-grounded sense of personal ethics, evident in the individual’s
integrity, fairness, and openness—upholding the highest standards in
public and personal relations
• Capable of representing the World Ocean School favorably
